Motshelo with Attie
Motshelo is the Setswana tradition of pooling money so that members can be helped when they need it. We lend on the same principle: a straightforward application, a clear amount, a clear repayment date, and no surprises.
Interest is 30% per month on the amount advanced. Repayment terms are agreed in writing before any money is paid out.
The process
Everything is done in writing so both sides know exactly what was agreed.
Fill in your personal details, where you work, what you earn, how much you need and your next of kin.
Send a copy of your Omang, your latest payslip and proof of your residential address by WhatsApp or email.
We check that the repayment fits your income and confirm your employment and next-of-kin details.
You sign an Acknowledgement of Debt and Undertaking to Pay setting out the capital, the interest and the repayment dates.
Funds are transferred to the bank account in your name that you gave on the application.
We send a reminder to your email and cellphone before each due date so nothing is missed.
Work out your repayment
Enter the amount you need and how many months you want to repay over. Interest is charged at 30% per month on the capital advanced.
This is an estimate only. The exact amount, dates and charges are set out in the Acknowledgement of Debt you sign before any money is advanced.
The terms
The same terms apply to every borrower. There is no negotiation on the interest rate.
Signing the Acknowledgement of Debt means you accept liability for the capital plus finance charges, you choose an address for service of legal documents (domicilium citandi et executandi), and you renounce the ordinary legal exceptions including non causa debiti, errore calculi and no value received.
What to send
Send these together with your application. We cannot assess an application without them.
Both sides, clear and readable. A passport is accepted for non-citizens.
Your most recent payslip, or three months of bank statements if you are self-employed.
A utility bill, lease or letter from the Kgosi showing your address.
A bank statement or account confirmation letter showing the account is in your name.
Send your documents to us on WhatsApp or by email, using your full name and Omang number as the reference.
